One of the five Knoxville research centers designated in 2001 by President Wade Gilley, this center was designed to build upon UT’s existing reputation in scientific and high performance network computing by creating new types of information technology, empowering research through the use of new technology, and studying the effects of the use of new technology. The center has its principal focus in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and initiatives of the Science Alliance. CITR directly supports the work of the Innovative Computing Laboratory (ICL), which serves as the foundation of CITR’s research initiatives.
