In a ceremony in the Graduate Lounge of the university center on July 16, 1981, William Carvaljal (UT student and captain in the Venezuelan National Guard) presented UT with a lithograph of Simon Bolivar as the culmination of a weeklong celebration of Venezuela’s independence. Dr. Howard Aldmon, vice chancellor of student affairs, received the lithograph on behalf of UT. It was presented by the Venezuelan Government and the more than 50 Venezuelan students at UT.
