In 1993 the Statewide Publications Services Bureau developed a special UT bicentennial logo for use by all campuses during the celebration of the 1794 chartering of Blount College, which became the University of Tennessee. It was unveiled at the annual breakfast for state legislators on November 27, which UT President Joe Johnson declared to be the unofficial kickoff of the bicentennial celebration. The Knoxville campus Bicentennial Steering Committee included the logo on stationery, postage meters, the cover of the Knoxville telephone directory (along with a picture of Ayres Hall), uniforms of intercollegiate athletic teams, diplomas, commemorative Coca-Cola bottles, the masthead of the UT Daily Beacon, an employee pin given to all UT employees, flags and banners on campus, pennants for the herald trumpets, flags carried by the flag team at football games, and on T-shirts, sweatshirts, and publications.
