A pitcher dating from the time of the institutional founding, which was in the collection at Blount Mansion and had a liberty theme, was the model for two hundred pitchers handmade by Pigeon Forge Pottery. Transfers for the pitchers were made in England, with one side having the same liberty transfer as the one in Blount Mansion’s collection, and the other having a special transfer commemorating UT’s bicentennial celebration. An item from the collection of Blount Mansion was chosen because the original institutional charter (of Blount College) was issued at Blount Mansion. A project of the statewide Bicentennial Steering Committee, the pitchers were not sold but were used for presentation items. Deans and vice chancellors were offered the pitchers at cost ($50) for presentation gifts.
