Various colleges, departments, and programs sponsored special lectures, among which were “Strengthening Families and Children,” by Dr. Anthony Jurich, in celebration of the International Year of the Family, sponsored by the College of Human Ecology; “Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Women’s Studies at UTK and Women,” by Roe v. Wade attorney Sarah Weddington, sponsored by the Commission for Women and Women’s Studies Program; Celebration of the two-millionth volume added to the UT Knoxville Libraries and “The Role of Libraries,” by Dr. Richard Marius, sponsored by the Friends of the UTK Libraries; presentation of his current research by Dr. Monte Rouquette (Texas A&M), as the Goddard Lecture in Plant and Soil Science; “George Wallace and the Southernization of American Politics,” by Dr. Dan Carter (Emory University), sponsored by the Department of History; “Reminiscences of a 1969 Graduate,” by Congressman John J. Duncan, as the Kappa Tau Alpha John Lain Lecture, sponsored by the School of Journalism. In addition, an original production of You Can’t Take It With You, with cameo appearances by alumni was staged September 2–18 by the Theatre Department.
