On September 12, 1994, UT Knoxville revived the tradition of celebrating Charter Day. The actual day of chartering (September 10) fell on Saturday and was celebrated by a football victory over Georgia in Athens. Charter Day activities included an exhibit at the McClung Museum; open houses throughout the university; campus tours; a special postal cancellation and a special cachet, the March of History; a convocation and the investiture of the chancellor; a bicentennial dessert; issuance of a special Charter Day lapel tack; the first induction of honorees into the Alumni Academic Hall of Fame; and celebrations such as those marking the issue of the College of Home Economics’ history (Through the Arch) and the 50th anniversary of the College of Social Work. From 9:00 a.m. until noon, the College of Business presented an illustrated timeline and a video highlighting the history of the college. The Clarence Brown Theatre opened You Can’t Take It With You, billed as having an all-alumni cast—12 of the 19 actors were alumni, and the remainder had longtime association with the Theatre Department.
