Betsy—The French Tool Printing Press

On September 10, 2008, the Department of Art held a ceremony to name its new French Tool Printing Press in honor of Betsy Worden. Worden, who is a UT graduate and a respected member of the Knoxville artist community, created works in watercolor, weaving, and printmaking. In 2005 the Betsy Worden printmaking fund was established to enrich student opportunities in the Printmaking Program. The new press was the largest hand-operated press ever produced by Conrad Machine Company of Whitehall, Michigan. The bed of the press measures five feet by ten feet and is designed to print large-scale intaglios, relief prints, and monotypes.
