On April 23, 1927, the Cate Motor Coach bus, in which the baseball team was being transported to Harrogate for a game with Lincoln Memorial University, overturned on the Tazewell Road near Maynardville. Two players received painful, but not serious, injuries (Ed Baxter: severe cut on the back of the head and other cuts; Lamar Ross: badly lacerated finger). Coach Hobt also suffered a painfully twisted ankle, and the rest of the team was shaken but unhurt.
