A. J. Johnson (senior linebacker) and Michael Williams (redshirt sophomore cornerback) were charged on November 16, 2014, with the forcible rape by a 19-year-old UT student. Johnson, an all-SEC linebacker who had started all 10 football games in 2014 and who led the team in tackles, became the first Vol since Andy Spiva (1974–76) to record three consecutive one-hundred-tackle seasons the afternoon before the 1:45 a.m. alleged rape. Williams started five games at cornerback in 2014. A second woman reported that Williams sexually assaulted her but declined to press charges and returned to Florida, where she was a student. Both athletes were suspended from all team-related activities on November 17.
