Athlete Extra Benefits (2013)

Yahoo! Sports reported on September 11 that five SEC football players, among them UT defensive lineman Maurice (Mo) Couch and former quarterback Tyler Bray, had received cash payments and other benefits from Luther Davis, acting as a go-between for the players with agents and financial advisers between December 2011 and December 2012. Couch was the only active player identified in the report; the other players had graduated and some had begun professional careers. Couch was reported to have received four payments totaling $1,350. The NCAA ruled Couch permanently ineligible on November 1, 2013 (he had not played since the September 11 report). Couch admitted taking money from Davis, saying that he did so because of family financial hardship. Couch was married and had a daughter.
