The Association for Computing Machinery was founded in 1947 and is committed to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of information technology. It has chapters and members in more than one hundred countries. The student chapter at UT is housed within the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department and serves its members by providing information about job opportunities and the field of computer science. Special interest groups, which are a subset of the student chapter of ACM, include the ACM SIGGRAPH (fosters and sponsors interest in the widely-varied field of computer graphics) and the Knoxville Gaming Bureau (provides opportunities to engage in multiplayer gaming).
