The University of Tennessee Dance Company’s presentation of My Ascension won the Southeast Regional American Dance Festival in April 1998, and the company subsequently performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as part of the American College Dance Festival. Their winning entry was choreographed for the 43 dancers to Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and incorporated text from the Margaret Atwood poem “This is a Photograph of Me.”
