The American Chemical Society was organized in 1876. This professional organization has a program through which undergraduate degrees in chemistry are certified as rigorous academic programs, and UT’s BSCH degree is so certified. Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. Bruce Bursten became president-elect of the organization in 2007 and served as president from 2008 to 2009.
