In 1942 a tablet for Alumni Memorial honoring UT men who died in the service of their country in the Spanish-American War and World War I was presented to the university by Scabbard and Blade. Also in 1942 three plaques honoring UT alumni who died during two wars were placed in the east stairwell of the Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The plaques were transferred from Science Hall Auditorium, which was the assembly hall prior to the completion of Alumni Memorial Building.
