Beginning in 1989 UT engineering students have established a winning record in the Department of Energy’s Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions, managed by Argonne National Laboratory. The national winner in the 1989 Methanol Marathon, UT also won first place in the 1990–91 Natural Gas Vehicle Challenge and the 1994–95 Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Dodge Neon competition. The UT College of Engineering teams won a number of additional specific awards in the various competitions. Faculty member Dr. Jeff Hodgson advised the teams.
