Alpha Gamma Delta sorority was founded at Syracuse University on May 30, 1904. The Gamma Nu Chapter was established at UT in February 1961. Because there was no room in Sophronia Strong Hall for additional chapter rooms, Alpha Gamma Delta shared a house at 1809 Yale Avenue (now Volunteer Boulevard) with Alpha Chi Omega. Alpha Gamma Delta had the second floor. The colors of the sorority were red, buff, and green. The flowers were red and buff roses, with asparagus plumosa ferns. The jewel was the pearl, and the mascot was the squirrel.
