Allen J. Greer is one of two UT alumni upon whom the Congressional Medal of Honor has been bestowed. He was awarded the congressional medal on March 10, 1902, for valor on July 2, 1901, during the Philippine Insurrection. The citation indicates that near Majada, Laguna Province, Philippine Islands, he charged alone an insurgent outpost with his pistol, killing one, wounding two, and capturing three insurgents with their rifles and equipment.
Greer attended from 1895 to 1898. He enlisted in May 1898 and his degree (a BA in literary course) was conferred June 15, 1898.
