Aconda Court

In 1923 Aconda Court opened as an apartment building that offered a dozen comfortable apartments. The university purchased the Aconda Court Apartments on February 10, 1938, for $120,000 from Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Worsham. The building served as faculty apartments and temporary student housing.

In fall 1962 the top two floors of the building were designated as an honors dormitory for outstanding junior and senior women. (Administrative offices replaced the Honors Dorm after spring quarter in 1965.) To be considered for a place in the dormitory, a woman had to have at least a 2.5 grade point average, a good past dormitory record, and a recommendation from her dormitory hostess.

The lower floors were refurbished in 1962 as office space for an Alumni lounge, Alumni Association Offices, the Placement Office, and the annual giving office, partially by enclosing the courtyard. The facility was dedicated as Alumni Hall on December 20, 1962, a name it retained until January 1991, when it took back its original name in order to avoid confusion with the new designation for Tyson House—Tyson Alumni Center—to which alumni association offices had moved in 1982.

Aconda Court was razed in 2013 to allow for construction of the new student union.
