In 2009 the first awards for fall 2010 were made under the Achieve the Dream grant program, designed to help students from lower-middle-income families attend UT. The program redirects available institutional resources, and approximately $1.5 million was allotted to provide $3,000 grants to Tennessee students. The program benefits students whose family incomes are too high to qualify for federal Pell Grants or UT Knoxville’s Pledge Scholarship but who still need financial help with college costs. The grants could be used in addition to lottery-funded Hope Scholarships. The Achieve the Dream grant was consolidated into the Volunteer Scholarship for fall 2015.
