The ACEJMC is the agency formally recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for accrediting programs for professional journalism and mass communications in institutions of higher education. It was formed as the American Council for Education in Journalism in 1945. It assumed its current name in 1980. This body accredits UT baccalaureate and master’s programs in advertising, broadcasting, communications, and journalism in the College of Communication and Information. UT’s Department of Journalism was first accredited in June 1955.
