When a committee of the Engineering Council for Professional Development accredited UT’s departments of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering in 1936, it was the first time that a southern engineering college had been judged according to a minimum standard. Bachelor’s programs of the College of Engineering and the Biosystems Engineering component of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are still accredited by the same organization, which has changed its name to Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
