In 1988, at the last commencement at which UT System President Edward J. Boling presided, Knoxville Chancellor Jack E. Reese presented Boling with a street sign that was an exact copy of the new sign erected to mark the renaming of Boling Alley on the Knoxville campus. The alley runs parallel to Andy Holt Avenue, behind the houses on Melrose Avenue.
