Alpha Nu Chapter was established at UT on April 18, 1942. Zeta Beta Tau was founded in 1898 on the campus of City College of New York. The colors of the fraternity were light blue and white. Among institutional traditions were the annual Treasure Hunt, begun in 1946, and the fraternity’s Greek Stag Party and Weekend Retreat. Both the architect and the contractor for the ZBT house in Fraternity Park were alumni of the fraternity. The house provided living space for 30 men and featured a large party room, dining facilities, and a modern kitchen. In 1968 ZBT became the first Greek society to pledge an African American student (Charles B. Fancher Jr.). The fraternity became inactive in 1970, the same year that Phi Epsilon Pi (which had merged with Kappa Nu in 1961) became part of Zeta Beta Tau.
