UT’s College of Business joined the Yellow Ribbon GI Enhancement Program in 2011. The program provides institutions such as UT with the ability to fund tuition expenses that exceed in-state tuition costs. Under the program, UT could waive up to 50 percent of the costs and the Department of Veterans Affairs would match the waived amount. At UT, ten eligible veterans could receive a maximum of $3,000 through the university, a sum that would be matched by $3,000 from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans could use the funds to pursue any master’s or PhD program in the College of Business. While the GI Bill in effect provided 100 percent funding for a public four-year undergraduate education, graduate programs in the College of Business had fees not covered by the GI Bill.
The Yellow Ribbon program is a part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill that became law in 2008.
