Writing Laboratory

A writing lab to assist students who did poorly on the Junior English Examination had been put into place in 1928, and the concept was expanded by the English Department’s establishment of a Writing Laboratory during the winter and spring quarters of 1937. The lab was established in response to requests from students and from faculty who sought help for their students who had problems in composition. In its first years, the laboratory had 3 two-hour sessions each week, and an experienced instructor was in charge. Students received individual instruction for their specific writing problems.
