In 1942 noncredit courses to prepare women for work in businesses were offered. A preemployment class for women offered in October was so successful that a second section was offered. This class met from noon to 5:00 p.m., five days a week. The School of Business Administration offered five courses: Industrial Accounting I, Industrial Accounting II, Industrial Cost Accounting, Office Management, and Industrial Statistics. Students enrolled could take the courses but received no credit.
In 1943, at the request of the Civil Service Commission, UT offered a 10-week training course to prepare women to be junior engineering aides, and a similar course to train women to be inspectors. Also in 1943, the School of Business offered a 12-week course to train office workers. No fees were charged to participants, and those who completed the course were offered jobs.
