Classes were dismissed on October 16, 1940, to allow all male students between the ages of 21 and 36 to register under the requirements of the Selective Service Act. The registration was held at the Alumni Memorial Building and took each student about 20 minutes. Approximately six hundred students registered on campus. Students could register from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Knoxville students could also register in their own wards.
