In 1926 Coach Ann Huddle, who had charge of all women’s athletics, inaugurated a point system that allowed women students participating in sports other than basketball and tennis an opportunity to earn the Varsity T or a special UT monogram. To achieve the university T with sweater, women had to earn 1,000 points. The monogram UT was awarded for 500 points. The award for making a class team was 100 points and for making the squad, 40 points. Additional points were given to the captains and managers of the team. Points were awarded both for athletic accomplishment and for scholarship. A female athlete who averaged an A in academic work during a quarter was awarded 50 percent of athletic points to be added to her total. A grade of B netted an additional 25 percent point addition.
