The Test of English as a Foreign Language is a product of the Educational Testing Service, and its administration at UT began in 1978. It is designed to test the ability of nonnative English speaking individuals to read and write English as it is used in colleges and universities. Students whose native language is not English who apply to UT are required to achieve a satisfactory score on the TOEFL examination.
