Tennessee Trombonery

The eight-member Tennessee Trombonery, formed in 2002, won the National Jazz Trombone Ensemble competition in 2003. They also won the Kai Winding Competition, an international competition named for the late jazz trombonist. In summer 2003 they competed in the International Trombone Festival in Helsinki, Finland, and won that contest also. The group was led by Don Hough, associate professor of music, and consisted of trombonists Cameron MacManus, Jeremy Wilson, Jeff Ramey, Tyler Bystrzycki, and Nate Malone, with pianist Ben Dockery, bassist Daniel Kimbro, and drummer Martin Hodge. Another UT group, the Trombone Choir, won the national competition in 2001. The Trombone Choir was established in 1965.
