In January 1994 Tennessee became part of the United States Newspaper Project, a nationwide program designed to preserve and to provide access to newspapers. The project funding came from the Preservation and Access Division of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The project is designed to identify and catalog the nation’s newspapers and then to microfilm or digitize them.
