Professor Sublett joined the faculty of the university’s Department of Art in 1966 and retired in 1982. He worked in watercolors and oils, and his paintings have been exhibited in this country and abroad. His work has been recognized by the Florence Citizen’s Award in Art, and he received honors for exhibits in Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Bristol, Abingdon, Birmingham, and Washington, DC. In 1984 a major exhibition of his works, including 134 paintings, was held at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville. His paintings were featured in Prize Winning Watercolors (1964). In 1976 he was elected an associate member of the National Academy of Design. His intellectual contributions to the life of the university have been recognized by placement of a plaque in his honor on a faculty study.
