In response to student requests, Student Government Association President Adam Roddy announced in October 2012 that he would propose to the Calendar Committee at its spring meeting that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving be added to the Thanksgiving Break, even if doing so meant starting a day earlier in August. Students who live at a distance from UT complained that the existing break was too short because of travel time required. Other students were satisfied with the current length. UT and Louisiana State University were the only SEC Schools at the time that did not provide at least three weekdays for the Thanksgiving Break. Vanderbilt and the University of Georgia gave the entire week off, starting exams two days later than UT.
