Petitions, articles in the Daily Beacon, and visits from students to administrators resulted from news in early January 2009 that UT was considering removing the tuition cap, under which students paid for 12 hours a semester—a full load—and additional hours cost no additional money. The proposal had been estimated to increase revenues by $25 million a year. On January 30 local and campus newspapers reported that the proposal was “off the table” for the present.
