Student Issue, 2006—Greenwood Mural

In 2006, at the request of the Student Issues Committee and the Visual Arts Committee, the Greenwood Mural in the University Center Ballroom, covered with paneling since 1972, was uncovered to allow a dialogue about the mural and race. Students were divided about whether the mural should remain uncovered, with some African American students feeling that the mural did, in fact, represent a racist, white view that should not be displayed. The mural was recovered.
