The final report of a committee commissioned in spring 2000 to investigate the quality of the undergraduate experience was presented and discussed at the June 2001 board of trustees meeting. The report indicated that there were significant areas in which students believed they were getting the Big Orange Screw, which the report defined as not getting their money’s worth. Three primary examples were provided: Students believed that the original cost of books compared to the buyback price of books was not fair; they felt that the cost of parking compared to the availability of parking to places within “close proximity of where they need to go” is limited; and they believed that the quality of food was inconsistent with the price paid.
