The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association held a rodeo in Thompson Boling Arena on February 9. A group of animal rights activists, part of a student group attempting to establish itself as a recognized student organization (as ROAR—Rallying On Animal Rights) protested the rodeo by carrying signs, distributing animal rights literature, and chanting. The issue of the treatment of animals by rodeos was one that had been extensively debated on campus and in the Daily Beacon prior to the event. Twenty protestors attended the rally.
