In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Roe v Wade, the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, the student organization Tennessee Students for Life erected seven hundred crosses on the Humanities lawn, with each cross representing fifty thousand abortions. Students stood among the crosses and on the Humanities Plaza with pro-life signs. Pro-choice students from the National Organization of Women and other groups spoke at the Humanities Plaza.
