Student Issue, 1986—Demonstration for Divestiture

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity sponsored a protest march and demonstration against apartheid and UT’s investments in companies doing business in South Africa in the fall quarter of 1986. More than two hundred students marched across campus shouting slogans and bearing placards. Mark Brown, president of the Black Law Association; Otis Cochran, law professor; and Shermaine Monoubai, a UT graduate student, addressed the crowd at Circle Park.
