Benches commemorating the Olympic Gold Medal performances of UT athletes and UT coaches are located in a landscaped park within the parking lot next to the aquatic center. The first two benches were dedicated after the 1984 Olympics, and UT swimming alumni raised funds for the benches. The bench honoring Dave Edgar, who was UT’s first Olympic gold medalist, was vandalized in 1996 but was restored. With the move of intercollegiate swimming to the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center, the Athletics Department moved the commemorative benches to a prominent location along Andy Holt Avenue in front of the Jones Center on December 8, 2011. RecSports replaced the commemorative benches in the park with standard UT benches.
