The second phase of the awareness initiative of the Ready for the World initiative focused on encouraging students to become aware of and engaged with people different from themselves and to volunteer in ways that improved conditions for others. Participants were given a free Volunteers Rock the World! T-shirt and sent photographs or videos of themselves while volunteering, with video being preferred. Facebook was used as the means of capturing the photos and video.
There was a specific focus on poverty and teaching students how to reach out to underprivileged socioeconomic groups.
