On October 17, 1934, as part of the homecoming activities, Alumni Memorial was officially dedicated. Colonel James N. Cox ’96 and General Cary F. Spence ’86 presided. Two addresses were included: the Honorable Walter Chandler ’09 spoke on “The University in Time of War” and General Harvey Hannah ’91 delivered “A Tribute to Our University Dead.” The program began with the UT band playing a march and ended with the audience joining the UT chorus and the band in singing the national anthem.
