Promise Scholarships

In October 2006 Chancellor Crabtree announced the availability of Promise Scholarships for fall 2007. They were designed to continue institutional efforts to increase diversity, following the lifting of the Geier Consent Decree. The scholarships provided up to $5,800 per year for four years when combined with the HOPE scholarship and other university scholarships. The Promise awards were initially available to academically eligible students graduating from a group of 35 specific high schools, the majority in Memphis and Nashville, areas that had traditionally sent few students to UT. The list of schools is updated as necessary.
