Carden, a 1950 College of Law graduate, designated money earned from an oil well in Louisiana to be paid to the UT College of Law, the Department of Geological Sciences (now Earth and Planetary Sciences), and humanities programs in 1981. The anticipated total donation was estimated at close to $1 million.
