In 2004 the UT Athletics Department unveiled an ambitious master plan for Neyland Stadium to renovate the structure and its entrances and infrastructure to make it useful for the next 75 years. The cost (2004 dollars) was estimated to be $107 million. The renovation was divided into three independent phases, with infrastructure (electrical, restroom, concessions areas) being the major part of the first phase. The plan called for the primary funding source to be the addition of club seating, providing more than $34.1 million up front plus an annual revenue of $3 million toward the total renovation price. Other funding sources included the additional contributions received as a result of the 2004 sideline seating policy change and other philanthropic gifts.
