An audiotape tour in the general format of those used in major museums and galleries was first instituted (and required of all freshman English students) in 1978. The tour was of the John Hodges Undergraduate Library. A modified version was the principal means of informing students about the temporary locations of library materials during the renovation and expansion into the main library of the John C. Hodges building, and the tour was updated again for use in the new main library. The audiotape tour has its roots in the 1927–28 program of the Morgan Chapter Alpha Zeta to acquaint freshman agriculture students with the library, which resulted in the “library inspection” being placed on the required Freshman Week activities.
