In collaboration with charter members Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 National Security Complex, and Oak Ridge Associated Universities, UT formed the Institute for Nuclear Security in spring 2012. The institute, housed within the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, was first headed by Governor’s Chair Dr. Howard Hall. Its goal was to have a major impact on solving global challenges in nuclear security by developing and providing expertise to shape national and international policies for nuclear security. In August 2013 it received a $1.2 million grant from the National Nuclear Security Administration to establish the Radiochemistry Center of Excellence.
