Chamique Holdsclaw

During the four years that Chamique Holdsclaw played basketball at UT, the Lady Vols compiled a 131-17 record, captured three NCAA titles, won two Southeastern Conference regular season titles and three SEC tournaments. In 1997 Holdsclaw led the Lady Vols to an NCAA record 39-0 season, 14-0 in the SEC, and a third straight NCAA title. She was named Naismith National Player of the Year in 1998 and 1999, and was runner-up for the honor in 1997.

She finished her college career as the SEC and UT all-time leading scorer with 3,025 points, and the UT all-time leading rebounder with 1,295 rebounds. She set NCAA Tournament records for scoring (479 points) and rebounding (198). In 1999 she was named USBWA Player of the Year, Kodak All-American, and MVP of the SEC tournament, among other honors. In 1999 she was selected as the Number 1 pick in the WNBA draft, chosen by the Washington Mystics. She was the 1999 WNBA Rookie of the Year. In 1998 Tennessee swept the AP Coach and Player of the Year awards, with Pat Head Summitt winning the former, and Holdsclaw the latter. A street on campus was named for Holdsclaw by the City of Knoxville in 1999.
