In 1949 five head of registered Hereford cattle were presented to UT as a memorial to Albert Noe Jr., a long-time breeder of Hereford beef cattle at Pulaski. The herd, for which these five cattle were donated as the basis, was to be named the Albert Noe Jr. Memorial Hereford Herd. Four of the herd were descendants of Baca Duke II, a five-year-old bull that sold in 1949 for $65,000 at an auction in Pulaski. The American Hereford Association was to participate in the building of the herd. The cattle were installed on the Blount County farm and were under the supervision of Dr. C. S. Hobbs, head of the Animal Husbandry Department.
