Guidon Society

In 1934 the ROTC military sponsors formed a “guides” chapter hoping to be granted a charter by the national Guidon Society. Membership in the group was limited to the women chosen as ROTC sponsors each year. The society was called Guides in 1935–40 and Guidon in 1940. In 1944 the term was dropped in favor of a return to ROTC sponsors.

ROTC sponsors were female honorary officers of the various companies, battalions, and the band, and wore specially designed versions of the uniforms of the entities for which they served as sponsor. The uniforms, adopted by the Guidon Society and worn in 1941, were white with blue caps trimmed in orange and white.
